From Engineer to Analyst | Bernie Collins's Inspirational Journey to Formula 1

7 June, 2024

Bernadette "Bernie" Collins, currently a Formula One strategy analyst for Sky Sports and F1TV, has had a remarkable journey in motorsport.

She graduated from °Ç¸ç³Ô¹Ï Belfast in 2009, where she was actively involved in the Formula Student programme and was team leader in her final year of an MEng in Mechanical Engineering. Soon after graduating, Collins joined McLaren as a trainee. She rotated through various departments, eventually becoming a performance engineer and working with 2009 World Champion Jenson Button.

In 2015, Collins joined Force India, helping secure a fourth-place finish in the Constructors' Championship. Recognised on Forbes' 30 Under 30 list and as an ambassador for the UK's Make it in Great Britain campaign, she transitioned to Aston Martin as head of race strategy before moving to her current analyst roles in 2022 and 2023.

Many °Ç¸ç³Ô¹Ï Formula Racing alumni have made the transition to high-performance motorsport, but we're particularly proud of Bernie for being a brilliant role model for women in engineering and motorsport. Collins' journey showcases the blend of technical skill and strategic acumen required to excel in Formula One, inspiring many aspiring engineers and analysts in the field.

We were particularly delighted to see this showcase at the Bahrain Grand Prix 2024, we're sure there's more to come for Bernie and can't wait to see what she does next.
