Metaverse Horizon-Scanning Project
About the Project
Queen’s University Belfast completed a two-phase Metaverse (and adjacent) technologies horizon-scanning project. The research was supported via UKRI by the DCMS Science and Analysis R&D Programme; it is independent research produced according to the research team's hypotheses.
The first phase, completed in July 2023, consisted in an analysis of UK interests and activity in related technical areas via a wide consultation with UK companies and academics.
The second phase was composed of three major research work packages which address the areas of
-
1) Metaverse standardisation and how the UK can benefit from an open and interoperable infrastructure;
- 2) Metaverse privacy and security threat analysis, regulated access to metaverse datastores and especially how this may transform the study of online harms;
- 3) Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) use cases and their likely impact on the UK industrial, social and commercial environments;
