Border Ireland: From Partition to Brexit - Professor Cathal McCall and Professor Richard English

In the third episode of this podcast series, Professor Richard English speaks with Professor Cathal McCall about his new book Border Ireland: From Partition to Brexit (Routledge, 2021).

Themes discussed include:

  • the experience of  'bordering, debordering, rebordering, and borderlessness'
  • the origins and writing of the book
  • the controversy about how Brexit affects Northern Ireland's relationships with the rest of the UK and with the rest of Ireland
  • the agenda for the next phase of research on the Irish border

Professor McCall also talks about his personal experiences of bordering and the joys of writing a book in a pandemic.

Cathal McCall is Professor of European Politics and Borders at Queen’s University Belfast. He has published widely on European Union borders and the nexus between cross-border cooperation and peacebuilding including The European Union and Peacebuilding: The Cross-Border Dimension (Palgrave Macmillan, 2014), and Border Ireland: From Partition to Brexit (Routledge, 2021).
