New Capture the Flag (CTF) Programme at CSIT Helps Students Build Practical Cyber Skills

22 January, 2026

CSIT has launched a new Capture the Flag (CTF) pilot programme, designed to help students build hands-on cyber security skills in a collaborative, challenge-based environment.

Students working on computers in CSIT Red Room Cyber Range
A focused 6-week Capture the Flag (CTF) programme where students gain experience in Cisco and Linux hacking and other practical cyber security skills through guided labs and hands-on challenges.

Running over six weeks, the programme includes guided labs, technical challenges, and a final internal CTF competition, all supported by CSIT engineers and academics. Participants will gain experience in Cisco and Linux hacking, strengthen their understanding of offensive security concepts, and enhance their technical confidence.

As well as offering the chance to collaborate with peers and compete for prizes, the CTF programme supports professional development, helping students build a stronger profile for future careers or competitions.

The programme is open to MSc and postgraduate students at °Ç¸ç³Ô¹Ï with core cyber or computing skills. Undergraduates may also apply, provided they meet the prerequisite knowledge of Linux, networking protocols, and a basic understanding or motivation to learn offensive security.

Spaces are limited to 20 participants and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
